Weekly Update – Dale #1

Hello everyone! I’m starting this weekly “Update” series from last year back up, mainly because it’s nice to recap on what you’ve been playing/reading/watching and having a “Non-official” ranting place and I enjoy writing them.

So, firstly what have I been playing?

I am one fabulous looking hunter

Well, I’ve been playing a lot of Monster Hunter World For the Xbox. The Kulve Taroth siege is back, for those who don’t know, Kulve Taroth is an end game siege that rewards the player with some of the most powerful weapons in the game. It’s the first time that I’ve completed the raid and I have completed it roughly eight times now, the only problem I have with the raid is that the weapons you get are random, so unless the RNG gods are on your side then you wont be getting the weapon that you want. Also, I’ve been playing with randoms and not really chatting on the mic too much, so I’ve probably been hindering a lot of people with my newbie ways. It’s a hard fight and Kulve tends to one shot me… all the time… like all the time… but it’s still really fun and… I do enjoy the end game of Monster Hunter World. I’ve recently switched to playing with the Bow and it’s really but a breathe of fresh air into the game for me, so I expect my week will be full of hunting!

Secondly, I’ve just bought Slay the Spire on the Switch and I love it! I struggle with slower games normally, I bought Octopath Traveller and I really struggled with that game… I should try to complete it but, its so slow. That was my main worry with Slay the Spire, it has turn based combat which focuses on building a deck, unless it’s Pokemon turn based combat just can’t keep me engaged enough. I’m probably going to review Slay the Spire, So I don’t want to talk about it too much!

The photography mode in this game is beautiful.

Me and Lauren have also been playing through Plague Tale: Innocence When we have the time. We love narrative heavy games and she enjoys watching whilst I play through them, I’m sure she spent roughly sixty or eighty hours watching me play through Skyrim. Lloyd has already reviewed Plague Tale: Innocence and it’s a really interesting read, I really think this game is probably my favourite game from this year. It’s probably one of the most human portrayal of a character within a game, the siblings Amicia and Hugo play a powerful dynamic throughout the story. Amicia is a young girl fighting her way through the plague, inquisition and a swarm of rats and she doesn’t ever pretend to be on top of things. She’s scared and gets upset when she has to kill and it’s refreshing playing a game with character. I’m planning a blog post soon taking a look into the relationships of the two more in depth soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

I’ve also been passively re-watching Archer in the background, it’s absolutely hilarious and has me writing scripts and short comedies again. I’ve been writing more than ever lately and considering that my Dissertation for University is going to be a script, it’s really helpful to get some practice in… who knows maybe I could share some short stories or scripts on here… I wonder if people would enjoy that.

Anyways, that’s enough from me… I hope everyone is doing well! What have you all been playing? Or have you also started to re-watch something?

Thanks for reading,

  1. How Kulve’s drops work are such nonsense. Despite being able to make all of the stuff you want for the entire game, this one monster uses a random drop system for equipment. It’s incredibly frustrating as it goes against part of why I found Monster Hunter’s loot aspects enjoyable rather than unbearable.

Also, a tip for Kulve: augment all your armor and cap your defence. You should be running somewhere between 470-500 defence if you don’t want to get one-shot for making a mistake.

Also glad you gave Slay the Spire a shot. It’s one of my favourites from this year. 🙂

As for what I’ve been playing…I have been enacting mass genocide in Total War Warhammer II. It was a birthday present from my SO, and has eaten a considerable amount of my time over the past week. Little more slowly paced, but I get really sucked into it.

    1. I need to get myself a computer I really want to play some Total War, especially with three kingdoms coming out, I’m glad your enjoying it!

Kulve is getting irritating, im still working on getting my armour up to scratch. So for now its spamming my mantles as much as I can to stay alive. The RNG drops are starting to wear thin on me, I found it interesting at first. But now its dawned on me that all the “end game” weapons depend on being lucky 😥

As for slay the spire, I’ve been interested in it for a while and it was taking so long to release on the switch that I missed it being released. It’s really interesting and I’m loving it at the moment 😁

      1. Hey if you come over to PC we can play Monster Hunter together too. 😉

Yeah that’s where I stand on the whole thing. I think it is crap. Thankfully the weapons Kulve drops are not the be all and end all. While some of them are good, some of them are completely outclassed by stuff you can craft. As far as raw damage goes the Diablos weapons are comparable alternatives for most weapon types. I’m also a big fan of the Lunastra weapons personally. They’re a lot lower on the DPS chart, but I really like having razor sharp so I don’t have to sharpen as often since I don’t run the meta armor set. XD

      2. That’s a good enough reason for me to grab a PC!
Yeah I’ve been using bow mainly, so there are some really good elemental bows you can just build, so it’s not too bad. I just keep getting hunting horns from kulve… which is… just great 😅
